Transportation

The processed/finished ore needs to be carried from the mine pits to the river-side loading points near the mines and subsequently to Mormugao Harbour. The Company has logistic support of a full-fledged fleet of self-propelled barges from 950 DWT to 2,000 DWT capacity plus a fleet of 10 T capacity Tipper Trucks for carrying ore from mine pits to the river-side loading points.

Transhipment

An innovation in the technique of Transhipment is 34,102 DWT Transfer Vessel ‘MARATHA DEEP’ which boosts iron ore exports by enabling quicker despatch of vessels. The MARATHA DEEP has a system of mechanical loading with Belt Conveyors. It picks up load from the barges with the help of cranes and then transfers it to the vessels by belt Conveyors. The MARATHA DEEP feeds vessels at a speed of 20,000 tonnes per day necessary for the mammoth Bulk Carriers used today.
