Chowgules Mining Division in Goa is one of the modern and mechanized mining complexes in India. With three sophisticated beneficiation plants, it supplies the world with over 3.5 million tonnes of finest iron ore and iron ore pellets each year. Further, this Division takes care of activities of Mining, Beneficiation, Pelletization, Geology and Mineral exploration, Quality Control, Analytical service and testing facility, and Transportation.
The Mines
The Company’s iron ore mines are located in Goa’s rich iron ore belt, well connected by a navigable river system for transportation of ore to Mormugao Harbour. Their own state, Goa, is a reliable and stable source of iron ore supply. Starting as early as 1940’s the Company used more than just the latest techniques and sophisticated machinery to supply the finest iron ore to the international markets. It used its expertise and more importantly its foresight.
And the mines talk themselves. They are marvels of integration, mechanization, automation and innovation. In all the mines, the conventional Open-Pit System of mining is followed, involving the most modern earth-moving equipment. Chowgules’ run-of-mine ore production today exceeds 5 million tonnes per annum.
Geology and Mineral exploration
All the activities of the Mining Division begin from here. The Geology and Mineral exploration proves reserves quantity-wise and quality-wise, prepares mining operations and constantly updates information. Although primarily concerned with the exploration of iron ore, the activities of this unit cover other minerals too – limestone, bauxite, manganese ore to name a few. Also on the agenda is Geological and Consultancy work for external clients.
