Two Beneficiation plants, the biggest of their kind have been established at Costi and Sirigao to process the ore to a high grade. The technique utilizes primary grinding followed by two stages of hydrocyclonization. The plants were designed by Lurgi-Chemie, West Germany. The imported equipment was supplied by Voest Alpine, Austria. Each plant transforms low grade iron ore contents of 60.5%Fe into high grade iron of iron ore of plus 67% Fe with a capacity to produce 1 million tonnes of high grade concentrates per annum. A third Beneficiation plant at Tudou has state-of-the-art Beneficiation technology that has far greater value-addition capability. This plant transforms low grade iron ore contents of less than 40% Fe into high grade of iron ore of plus 67% Fe with a capacity to produce 0.5 million tonnes of high grade concentrates per annum.

Central Workshop, Khandepar.

This is the only full-fledged workshop of its kind in Goa with ISO 9002 certification. It is an indispensable centrally located workshop that undertakes major overhauls, repairs and engine overhauls of Earth Moving Equipment. It also reconditions undercarriages and heavy components. And thanks to its central location, makes co-ordination with the mines smoother. It has the capacity to cater to outside jobs as well.

Transportation

The processed/finished ore needs to be carried from the mine pits to the river-side loading points near the mines and subsequently to Mormugao Harbour. The Company maintains a full-fledged fleet of self-propelled barges of 650 to 1500 tonnes capacity. Plus a fleet of 10T capacity Tipper Trucks for carrying ore from mine pits to the river-side loading points.

Transhipment

An innovation in the technique of Transhipment is 33,000 DWT transfer vessel MARATHA DEEP which boosts iron ore exports by enabling quicker dispatch of vessels. The MARATHA DEEP has a system of mechanical loading with belt conveyors. It picks up load from the barges with the help of cranes and then transfers it into the vessels by Belt Conveyors. The MARATHA DEEP feeds vessels at a speed of 20,000 tones per day, necessary for the mammoth bulk carriers used today.
